Kike Gomez- The Hero On The Rock

Gibraltarian side, Europa FC recently shocked the world when they won the Gibraltar Premier Division to end Lincoln Red Imps streak of 15 consecutive titles. A player who was key to their success was 23-Year-Old Kike Gomez whose flurry of goals helped the side win their first title in 65 years.

Kike was a recent signing last season for the club when he joined on a free transfer from Spanish 4th Division side Coria CF. The Spaniard definitely showed his worth when he netted 36 goals in just 30 games for the side in all competitions which included 5 goals in 3 games against their fellow title challengers Lincoln Red Imps. His return of 30 goals in 25 games in the league was 13 more than any other player which is just sensational.

The Spaniard showed how much of a big game player he can be when he scored 2 goals in both the Pepe Reyes Cup and The Rock cup final, both against Lincoln Red Imps. He also recently scored and assisted in their Champions League qualifiers against Welsh Giants, The New Saints when they beat them 2-1 away from home in the first leg. Unfortunately they did not advance to the next round as they lost to them in the second leg 3-1 in the ‘home leg’ which was actually in Portugal and not in Gibraltar.

The 23-Year-Old has only been playing in Gibraltar for one season however, the impact he has made for both his club and the league itself has been nothing short of remarkable. With the standard of football in Gibraltar getting better and better every year it will be great to see how he manages this season. If he can replicate his form of last season then we may see Europa FC win yet another title as his goals have been a massive difference maker in the success of the club.
