With Russia set to host the world cup in 2018, fans will be saddened to see Russia’s below par performance at the recent Confederations Cup and will be left wondering how they will manage to perform in the worlds biggest competition. With Russia’s squad of old and ageing players they may have to start looking at their youngsters to ultimately take them to the next level to allow Russia to be anything but spectators when they host the tournament. One such player is CSKA Moscow Striker, Fedor Chalov who has broke onto the scene and is becoming one of Russia’s brightest prospects.
Chalov made a name for himself in Russia’s top flight towards the end of the season where he bagged himself 4 goals in the last 4 games of the season. Before this however, he was more accustom to coming off the bench. He finished the season with 6 goals in 8 starts at just 19-years-old. Elsewhere, Chalov was a talisman for CSKA Moscow’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League where he got himself 5 goals and 3 assists in just 5 games which is an incredible return for the side who bowed out in the Quarter finals to Portuguese Giants Benfica.
Internationally, Chalov has played from U15 to U21 youth levels , where he is currently playing now, but has scored goals from U17 and above. For Russia’s U21, Chalov has bagged himself 2 goals and 1 assist in just 1 start so it shows you the talent he has that he can score given such little opportunities. The 19-Year-Old also appeared at the 2015 U17 World Cup which hosted the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho at the Tournament. The Russian had a return of 3 goals in 4 games for his nation but unfortunately they only lasted until the last 16 of the tournament after they lost 4-1 to Ecuador, he scored Russia’s only goal.
For someone so young it is surprising to see a player with such good goalscoring ability so if he is coached right he can obviously go far. A player who is both fast and good technically it makes you wonder if he has a good run of games for CSKA Moscow will we see him at the next world cup? With stiff competition from players like Artem Dzyuba and Fedor Smolov he will have to work hard but he definitely has the potential to be a star, not only for CSKA Moscow but for the Russian National team.
