Rising Stars- Fashion Sakala

The recent U20 World cup that has been taking place in the Korea Republic has displayed some remarkable talent from all across the globe. It has also played host to some remarkable teams that have gone above and beyond expectations and Zambia fits into this category perfectly. The nation who won the U20 African Cup of Nations earlier in the year won the hearts of many after their tremendous talent saw them overcome footballing giants, Germany in the last 16 of the tournament and from then it looked a good chance that Zambia could actually go onto win the entire competition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and they were knocked out in the next round to Italy 3-2. Although it was tough to take the players could go out feeling full of pride after they did their nation proud.

One man who was a key figure in Zambia’s success was 20-Year-Old Spartak Moscow attacker, Fashion Sakala who bagged himself 4 goals in just 5 games for his nation on the big stage. Sakala was arguably one of Zambia’s best players in the competition and there is no doubt he caught the attention of many clubs around the world with his talent. Alongside the likes of Patson Daka and Edward Chilufya, Sakala went above and beyond for his nation. The former Zanaco FC player was also a key player in Zambia’s U20 African Cup of Nations success as he managed to score 3 goals in 5 games on his way to lifting the trophy.

For his club, Fashion Sakala has not had major success yet as he is currently playing for the Spartak Moscow 2 side where he has made just a minimal amount of appearances. but, after his performance at both tournaments we may see him break into their first team in the near future, unless of course he is snapped up by another club before that happens. Sakala, who was one of the scorers in the monumental win over Germany, alongside his teammates will forever go down in history as heroes to the people of Zambia as it they broke the record for the furthest an African Country have ever gone in the U20 World Cup competition which is remarkable considering they faced the likes of Germany, Portugal and Italy in the tournament.
