Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi- The Saudi Prodigy

Al-Ittihad may have had a season with a lot of ups and downs which lead them to finish 3rd in the Saudi Pro League. This was more so down to the attacking brilliance of Gelmin Rivas and Lucian Sanmaarten who were Ittihad’s key players and who combined scored 34 and assisted 17 times in all competitions. There was also Abdulfattah Asiri who stepped up near the end of the season when Ittihad’s Young Talent Fahad Al-Muwallad was out of form and scored 4 and assisted 3 in 11 starts to the Tigers. But there was also one other talent who was a bright spark for the side who struggled in some games towards the back end of the season who lost 3 of their last 4 games which cost them a shot at the Title and that man was 21 year old Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi who managed to score 7 goals in 9 starts in the league and 1 assist as well.

Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi has spent his whole career at Al-Ittihad and made his first appearance for the team on the 31st of August 2013 when he was just 17 years old. However in that season he never managed to cement his place in the side and only managed to make 3 league appearances where he scored 0 and was subsequently dropped to the youth team for most of that year. Although he did manage to score his first goal for the club on the 22nd of April 2014 in the Asian Champions League against the UAE side Al-Ain in a 1-1 Draw. It was in his 2nd year he would truly be tested.

In the 2014/15 season Abdulrahman found himself getting more and more games for the side. He managed to play in 7 of Ittihad’s first 10 games. He scored his first league goal for the club on 12th of September 2014 against Orubah. In his first 7 games he only scored 2 goals but managed to impress the fans, manager and his fellow Teammates with his great Skill,Dribbling and Pace. It was in his 12th game of the season against Faisaly where he definitely won the fans over when he scored a Hat-trick in a 3-0 win which ended Ittihad’s 7 game streak without a win. By the end of the season El-Ghamdi had spent most of his time coming off the bench a making appearances, overall he played 23 times for them that season but only managed 11 starts in which he got 8 goals and 1 assist.

The 2015/16 proved to be a tough year for Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi. This was because of a managerial change that meant he would lost more game time and the signing of Gelmin Rivas also meant that he would have to change positions if he wanted to play. So this season he spent the Majority of his time playing Right Midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation. In this season Abdulrahman only managed 9 starts but scored 7 goals however he was Ittihad’s 2nd top goalscorer in the League behind Gelmin Rivas. In the Minimal time he got Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi proved just how good and talented he is. He had one fantastic individual performance in the Asian Champions League against Perisian League Sepahan where he scored 2 and assisted 1 in a 4-0 win.

With the new season coming up it is looking more likely Abdulrahman El-Ghamdi will he a big part in this Ittihad side due to the losses of some key players like Sanmartean and Rivas and also due to him playing and scoring in some Pre Season Friendlies including tonights game against Al-Nassr where he scored a great individual goal. So with him looking like he will play big parts the future is looking bright for them and who knows we may see him playing in Europe in years to come. With his great Skill, Dribbling, Attacking Awareness and of course his good eye for goal the sky is the Limit for the young Saudi Prospect.image
