Matus Paukner- The Hidden Gem

Do you know who Matus Paukner is? The majority of you will probably not know who he is but for those who do will know about how much of a gem he is. The Slovakian has recently signed for Hungarian Side Békéscsaba after 2 phenomenal seasons with Slovakian Second Divison side FC Nitra where the 24 year old tore the division apart scoring 38 goals in 49 games.image

Matus signed his first professional contract with the side at 18 years old in 2010 when the side were in the Slovakian Super Liga. But unfortunately in his first 4 years in the side he struggled to break into the first team and only managed to make 15 appearances in that time scoring 0 goals which left the young player with very little confidence. So it wasn’t till the 2014/15 season that he would finally get his big break.image

It was when FC Nitra were relegated and had to sell a majority of their players including star striker Matus Mikus. so that meant that the side were lacking attacking options so it was Matus’ chance to prove the doubters wrong and help his side back into the Super liga. It took Matus just 2 games to open his scoring account and once he did he didn’t look back. And in 2014 he managed to score 17 goals in 18 games which is sensational for a man who previously played 15 games in 4 years. In 2015 his great run of form fizzled out as he only scored 4 goals in the rest of the season but 21 goals in his first full season with the side was fantastic and gave the young man so much confidence to push on in his career. With his great form came alot of interest from bigger european clubs but Matus decided it was better to stay one more season with his team.image

In his second and final season with Nitra he was not shying away from the goals and scored 18 goals in 18 games. Saying that was a good run of form is an understatement. Then in the January transfer window Matus’ brilliant run of form was rewarded with a well deserved move to Békéscsaba in the Hungarian First Divison on January 14th 2016. Now at Békéscsaba Matus has struggled for gametime in his first 3 games but still has managed to score 1 already during his time in Hungary. The move is definitely the best for his career now, he is at the age where he needs a move away, it will improve him dramatically and he will now make a bigger name for himself in a better league so maybe one day he may play in a big european league. If he can continue his current form then there is no doubt in my mind that he can make it to the big time it is just a matter of how his career turns out in Hungary. Remember the name Matus Paukner as in years to come his name will be mentioned alot more often.image
